Class Description:
Crafting effective alternative (alt) text descriptions for images, charts, graphs, infographics, and other data visualizations is very nuanced.
We discuss crucial questions regarding the intended user experience, meaningfulness, and level of detail required. Participants are equipped with a reliable formula to generate alt text, ensuring inclusivity and comprehension for all users viewing your digital images.
WCAG Success Criterion 1.1.1: Non-text Content requires descriptions for non-text content. This seems like an easy enough request, right? But then you start to ask… “How much is too much? What is meaningful? Do I include all the data points?” These questions and more can trip you up and send your head spinning.
Start with the question “What is the expected user experience?” We will provide you with a set of exploratory questions to ask and workflow tips that will help speed up the creation of your alt text descriptions.
